The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (And Your Children Will Be Glad You Did) by Philippa Perry // This isn't a typical parenting book full of tips about feeding, sleeping, weaning etc; it's more about your child's emotions and how to act yourself in order to help your child be open and honest with you and able to regulate their own emotions. It's very much how we see ourselves bringing up Bobby so I loved it for that; it definitely gave me some methods and ways of being that will help us as well as reassuring me that a more gentle parenting style is right for us. The only downside to this book was I found it quite heavy at times and it definitely made me feel a lot of pressure about raising a human! 4/5 stars from me.

Noughts And Crosses by Malorie Blackman // In society 'noughts' and 'crosses' are generally segregated and 'crosses' see themselves as superior, 'noughts' having been their slaves in the past. This book cleverly flips racism into a different perspective and follows Callum (a nought) and Sephy (a cross) as they grow from childhood friends to teenagers in love. It's very much a young adult book and I think I would have got so much from it reading it as a teenager, but still enjoyable as an adult too! I rated it 4 stars.

After The Rain by Lucy Dillon // After heavy local flooding and the death of her mother, a counsellor and volunteer flood relief worker finds herself falling down a memory lane hole when her estranged dad arrives back on the scene. I've read a couple of other Lucy Dillon books and really enjoyed them, but this one didn't quite hit the mark for me. An easy read that would be alright for a holiday! I rated it two stars (would have probably been two and a half if Goodreads allowed half stars!)

  1. I have the first book but still not read it. Don't want it to trigger all that trauma back then but also want to find out what its all about too! I picked it up from a car boot for £1 so was chuffed! x

  2. I love the sound of the first book! I hate usual parenting books which tells you how do do things. I really can't get on with the tone in which books or articles like that are written. This one sounds really interesting though even though you say it's quite heavy! I'll have to keep an eye out. Thanks for sharing.
