My Current Skincare Routine

Posted on: Friday 22 May 2015

This post contains some previously gifted products, all clearly marked with an asterisk (*).

Oddly (to me anyway), this is my most read blog post of all time, and seeing as it's six years out of date I thought it was about time I wrote an updated version (updated as of April 2021).

My skincare routine has changed a lot in the past six years; for one thing, it's now entirely cruelty-free (the fact that some companies sold in the UK still test on animals was completely unknown to me back in 2015). My skin has also changed and as I get older I find I need to hydrate it a lot more.

As in 2015, I'm definitely no skincare expert; this is simply what is working best for me at the moment. For reference, I have fairly 'normal' skin, although it does need a lot of hydration and I am prone to the odd hormonal breakout.

So, here's my current, updated skincare routine:

MORNING

Good Molecules Hydrate & Cleanse Bar* // I discovered Good Molecules last year when they kindly sent me some products to try, tailored to my skin type. This cleansing bar lathers really easily and makes my face feel really clean every morning. To use this I wet the bar, lather a bit up in my hands and smooth across my face right before getting in the shower, then simply wash it off once I'm in there.

Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturiser* // This is a really simple moisturiser - in a good way - non-scented, light and easily absorbed. It makes a great smooth base for popping make up over the top too.

Botanics All Bright Refreshing Eye RollOn // Whoever invented these roll on devices is pretty clever I'd say; this is so refreshing and soothing in the morning and genuinely rolls a bit more life into me!

SPF // I don't really have a specific SPF I use, but I tend to use SPF30 in winter and SPF50 in summer. I always put some on just before applying my makeup. I also have the tinted SPF from Beauty Pie so alternate between the three.

EVENING

Beauty Pie Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser // When I signed up to Beauty Pie this was the first thing I popped in my basket, on some strong recommendations. I absolutely love it; it removes make up amazingly, even waterproof mascara and I'm always confident that it removes every last scrap of makeup (and the day) from my face. I massage the product in dry before adding water to mix it into a milky liquid, then use a face cloth to rinse it off.

Good Molecules Hydrate & Cleanse Bar* // I use this after I've removed my makeup as an extra clean; I've always read about the importance of a double cleanse and I've finally got round to actually doing it!

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner* // After I've removed my makeup and washed my face I pop a small amount of this on a reusable face pad and wipe it across my face. Whether it makes a difference or not I'm not sure yet as it's a fairly new addition to my regime.

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion // This stuff is amazing. I wanted to add a retinol into my skincare routine seeing as I've hit the big three zero and after doing a bit of research discovered that this one has all the benefits of a retinol, but is less harsh on your skin than most. I was starting to get an annoying frown line (from concentration, I'm not really angry) in between my eyebrows and it's literally gone since using this.

Good Molecules Hyularonic Acid Serum* // This is supposed to hydrate your skin and apparently also compliments the use of a retinol so seemed like a perfect addition to my routine. It sinks in really nicely and certainly feels like it's hydrating my skin.

Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturiser* // I usually use a different moisturiser for day and night, but never got round to replacing my night one when it last ran out and this one has been serving me just fine at both ends of the day!

Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream // This is an old favourite of mine, along with most of the Vitamin E range from Superdrug. I haven't even tried many other eye creams because this one just seems to do the trick for me.

At the moment I don't have a regular face mask or anything else I do on a weekly basis (something I need to rectify really) so if you have any face mask recommendations or general recommendations of what I should be doing weekly please let me know!
