A Tentative 2022 Travel Wishlist

Over the past couple of years I've not even thought about the possibility of going abroad on holiday (okay, that's a big lie, I've thought about it a lot, just not in the sense that I ever considered actually doing it), and in all honesty I have come to appreciate a good UK staycation a lot more than I used to; there's got to be some perks to be had from the past two years hasn't there? So much so, in fact, that the majority of this list is UK based, the tentative part only being one holiday abroad we'd like to achieve this year.

As much as I'd love to include our once grand plans of a US West Coast road trip, a sunny holiday to Lisbon or seeing the national parks in Canada, I don't quite think it's the year for any of those for us, so the following is a rather more realistic list of where I'm hoping to travel to this year.

F R A N C E // I absolutely adore France and there's so much of it I haven't explored yet. We're hoping to drive across there in the spring and do a little road trip around Normandy and the North (I say road trip, we'll most likely travel to two or three places but I'd say the hefty drive there counts as a road trip in itself.) I so hope this comes off because I just want to sit outside a pretty French bakery eating pastries pretending I'm Amelie.

E D I N B U R G H // I've not been to Edinburgh since I was a teenager and I always find you explore places differently and with a higher appreciation of them as you get older so I'd absolutely love to go back for a long weekend. If our French road trip doesn't happen, then I'd love to expand an Edinburgh trip to a Scotland road trip instead and do one of the picturesque ones I see all over Instagram. If I was being ambitious I'd say we'll do both, but I'm being realistic and we definitely won't fit both in!

L I V E R P O O L // I've never been to Liverpool (aside from one time where I just stayed in a hotel that I don't count) and I've heard and seen such great things about it. I love a city break and it definitely looks like my kind of city so even if I only manage a day trip there this year it's somewhere I really want to tick off!

W A L E S // Wales is somewhere I've never really explored apart from a one day trip to Cardiff and I'd love to visit North Wales in particular as it looks so picturesque and basically my perfect idea of a staycation destination. Now we live a tiny bit closer it's somewhere that would definitely be achievable as a weekend break for us too so fingers crossed we fit that in somewhere!

Where are you hoping to visit this year?

  1. I'd absolutely love to go to Wales. In particular North Wales, like you say. We're heading to the lake District at the end of the month, I'm so excited! More excited for the peace and a good night's sleep now than anything. Haha. X
