As a child I visited Center Parcs quite a few times, but I hadn't been back since I was 11. I used to really enjoy it, but as I got older I became more excited by exploring new places where there were lots of things to see and do. I think Center Parcs is often perceieved as a bit boring and overpriced. So here I am writing a post telling you why I love it so bloody much.
// Firstly, of course it can be overpriced; accommodation sky rockets in the school holidays, but for a week in October it was just under £400 for a six person lodge. Pretty good non? At that price it actually works out cheaper than most hotels plus you get the added bonus of a living area with swans tapping at your patio door (legit happened).
// It's just so darn relaxing. We all yearn for the perfect exciting holiday in a place you can explore from dawn til' dusk, but sometimes all you need is a week in a lodge in the middle of the woods, a bike, some gems for companions and a good book (or two).
// You get the chance to discover potential new hobbies. During the week I did two things I'd never done before - played squash and took a pilates class, both of which I loved and will hopefully continue to do (she says optimistically).
// THE POOL. That had to be written in caps because it's pretty darn good really isn't it? You can go down the slides without anyone judging you for being an adult because all the other adults are doing it too, the rapids are so much fun (despite a near death experience on my first go) and there's a wave machine so you're basically in the sea but with the reassurance that you can't drown.
// You can do as much or as little as you like. There are so many different sports and activities to choose from so you can either jam pack your schedule, chill out for the whole time or create a happy medium which is what we did.
// There aren't any cars. Well apart from when everyone is coming/going on the Monday and Friday then there are LOADS of them, but during the week the roads are yours to cycle and walk on freely. There's something oddly satisfying about there being no cars and it's great being able to cycle everywhere without having to worry about traffic.
// The weather doesn't matter. Sure, it'd be nice if it was sunny the whole time, but at the end of the day it's no big deal. It actually rained a lot of the time we were there, but there's plenty to do indoors and there was something very beautiful about rain in the forest - dripping leaves and rain lashing into the lake is oddly calming.
// You will have the best sleep. I'm the lightest sleeper so I literally never sleep through the night, but I slept through every single night we were there. There isn't any light pollution so it's super dark and even though you're surrounded by lodges filled with other people it's so quiet.
// Everyone is nice. The staff, the other guests, just everyone. I don't know how they manage to sift out the rude people but there don't seem to be any about!
// You won't want to leave. Usually by the end of the holiday I'm ready to come home, but I just wanted to stay in a chilled Center Parcs bubble. Time to plan the next trip I think.
Have you ever been to Center Parcs? Do you like it?
