How Blogging Has Changed My Style

I've always loved fashion and clothes. From the first outfit I ever chose for myself (a white two piece co-ord with bright pink and orange flowers on it that my mum hated) to sporting a turquoise crop top and ginormous hoop earrings to my year six school disco to spending my sixth form free periods throwing all my weekend job earnings at Topshop, I've always expressed myself through my style (even if I'm not sure exactly what I was trying to express at that year six school disco...) and I've always enjoyed experimenting and putting outfits together.

Although I have always enjoyed experimenting I think I've generally tended to play it relatively safe in the past (co-ord and disco outfit aside) and I stuck to blacks, whites and greys for a long time. In the past I've bought things that I've loved, but never had the guts to actually wear. Let's take a moment to remember all the amazing pieces that never saw the light of day.

When I started blogging and reading other blogs I was suddenly thinking even more about what outfits I could put together as well as being exposed to a lot of other bloggers experimenting with their style and absolutely killing it. Through a growth in confidence spurred on by my blog as well as the inspiration taken from other bloggers I started wearing those more stand out pieces and experimenting even more with my own style. It feels less 'safe' now, but more me. I'm enjoying it more too - I feel like I have more colours, patterns and textures to play with and just as some people enjoy putting their makeup on in the morning, I enjoy getting dressed.

Lets talk a little bit about this outfit then because it's one of my current favourites. This plisse jumpsuit is a very recent purchase and I actually bought it primarily for my holiday in June, but I tried it on over this top and it looked cute so hooray for versatile clothes! It was pretty cheap, I love the whole plisse thing at the moment and it's also surprisingly flattering on me considering culotte style trousers tend to make my legs look even shorter than their proud twenty nine inches. It also has that handy overlay detail that's so perfect for food babies. The top is an old plain black polo neck from H&M that probably has a price per wear of about 0.0000001p because as well as wearing it on its own I'm constantly layering it under things too. I'm just getting back into jazzy tights too - I've always loved them but never been 100% sure how to style them. My Fiorelli backpack is also making a reappearance because I can't go long without it really - it's just so cute, goes with everything and is super practical.

  5. You're absolutely glowing in these pics, Amy! It's so great to hear that blogging has pushed you beyond your comfort zone, because now you're one of those girls who is totally killing it in the fashion blogging sphere (with no enormous hoop earrings or flowery co-ords in sight!) and inspiring new people to embrace who they are through their clothing! Those jazzy tights are a big winner with me, love 'em!

  17. Totally relating to this post Amy, fashion blogging definitely has a way of both harnessing our already-founded loves of fashion, with being inspired by others! Also, just a thought, but while our blogs are getting older, so are we, and our taste changes and evolves!! Loving seeing your style journey Amy, lovely look on you :)

  18. Just got round to reading this Amy - love it, that jumpsuit looks so gorgeous on you and I too am a fan of clothes with handy foo-baby hiding features! Those little shoes you have on with it are so cute. Having been blogging for a whole two weeks now (haha) I'm obviously only just getting started but I feel like everything you said is totally going to apply as that gets longer and longer. I'm already seeing so many bloggers wearing amazing outfits which really has got me excited about my (already pretty strong) love of fashion.

  20. I love how happy you look in these photos! My style has only slightly changed in that I'm a little more daring yet comfortable in being so daring. I have always been more into makeup than in fashion, but my interest in fashion has been slowly but surely growing and I love experimenting with pieces and letting my outfit tell a story!
