Bathroom Transformation

This room was actually pretty much finished months ago, but we had to wait for an annoying damp patch we discovered (thanks old house) to be fixed and dry out before we could paint the walls. Being the risky people that we are we ended up just popping some damp seal over the top and hoping for the best (experts). Whereas we are doing everything we can ourselves I have to admit we did have some help on this one in the form of a plumber and a tiler cause ain't nobody got time to tile a bathroom with those small brick tiles (apart from the tiler).

Before:

When we moved in the bathroom was split into a small bathroom and a separate toilet room. There was no shower, just a bath and the decor was very much in need of an update (no offence if this is how your bathroom is decorated...).

During:

We stripped the whole room of wallpaper, tiles, ceiling tiles, carpet tiles (yes really) and then the plasterboard because the walls were in such bad condition. We also removed most of the separating wall ourselves (after being assured it was non supporting!). Looking at these pictures makes me so grateful for the bathroom we have now and also make me cringe a bit to think we actually used it when it was like this!

After:

The plumber then came in to strip the old suite out and install a new one while the tiler removed the remainder of the separating wall, re-plastered the walls and tiled the walls and floor. All was left for us to do was paint the rest of the walls and ceiling, put up our mirror cabinet and install the lights.

It's only a small room, but it was a lot of work. I would definitely recommend doing any work you feel comfortable with yourself though because it does keep costs down! We are actually going to have a go at tiling the kitchen ourselves because that was a big cost that we possibly could have avoided.

What do you think of our bathroom transformation?

  4. Gorgeous transformation, wow! I love how you've opted for a minimal, fresh and clean design - the white brick walls are perfect and the finishes touches equally so (eg. copper plant pot)

  14. This looks stunning! We saw a lot of houses with the separate toilet and very old decor in our search, but we weren't brave enough to take them on. It must be so satisfying to see the difference!
