Temporary Living Room Transformation

So I wasn't sure whether to do a transformation post on this room or not because it's actually eventually going to be our spare bedroom, but at the moment it's our living room while we get to work on downstairs. It's actually probably my favourite room we've done so far (sorry bedroom) because I adore the colour and it's got the fireplace and the built in shelves which give it a bit of character. So because of that I thought I'd do a transformation post now because it's not going to look that different as a spare bedroom because the sofa will just become a bed and the TV will disappear.

Before

The walls were wallpapered in a patterned wallpaper that I actually kinda liked, but rewiring meant we were always going to have to get rid of it. There was a carpet in here that was in OK condition until you looked at the one bit that hadn't had any sun and realised it had faded A LOT. The fireplace was boarded up so it was another situation where we weren't sure what was going to be behind there and the surround was caked in old paint.

After

The walls are painted in Soft Linen by Wilkos which I just adore and I painted the inside of the built in shelves a pale blue colour which matches perfectly. My mum made the curtain and the fabric for that is from Laura Ashley (in the sale, obvs). We painted the fireplace copper like the one in the bedroom and cleaned up the tiles around it which were already there (another hidden gem!). We've moved our sofa we already had up here along with the TV and it's such a cosy little living room so I mean we don't even really need to bother with downstairs right?

What do you think of this transformation?

  4. What an amazing transformation, this room looks beautiful and really cosy and it's definitely a vip spare room - technically you could even host guests. The pictures are amazing and the carpet also fits into the room really well. If I ever buy a house I'll definitely come back to your posts for inspiration xx
