A Week in the Life | Christmas

I've had a post like this floating around in my ideas bank for a while and although I've really wanted to write one because I like the idea of documenting a little of my daily life on here, it's one of those posts that's a bit scary to write because I can't help but wonder why anyone would care what I do day to day let alone want to read about it. So putting my self-doubt aside I decided to start with a Christmas edition because that must be at least a little bit interesting right? Please do let me know if this is the most boring post you've ever written and I should never do one like this again. Here's what I did this week:

Monday (Christmas Day!) | For the first time in the 8 years we've known each other Nick and I actually spent Christmas morning together, which was lovely. We ate croissants and drank coffee in bed while opening presents and having cat cuddles (not a euphemism) and I even snuck in a Christmas morning bath - dreamy. In the afternoon we went to my parents' where we exchanged more presents, had Christmas dinner and played games because it's not really Christmas if you don't play silly games is it?! We spent the evening back at home chilling in front of the TV with a G&T. It was a pretty perfect Christmas Day really.

Tuesday (Boxing Day) | I'll start by saying that Boxing Day didn't quite go to plan. Nick was back at work and I planned to have a productive day of decorating as well as having my parents over for lunch. However, because I'm an idiot and this is the type of thing I do, I managed to lock myself out of the house. My parents brought what we thought was a spare key, but turns out we hadn't given them a new one since Nick changed the locks. So I went back to theirs, Nick left work early to pick me up and take me home (losing part of his Boxing Day premium by doing so), BUT we did then end up having a super productive decorating session resulting in actual colour on the living room walls!

Wednesday | Wednesday was back to work for me, but on a late shift so I blitzed the house in the morning, had my parents over for lunch (second time lucky) and did a bit more painting. Over Christmas and New Year it's skeleton staff at work so it's VERY chilled and quite boring, but it also means there's only one of you to do everything. That means setting up the camera shots, the lighting, the autocue and then vision and sound mixing the programme (and making sure I actually have control of BBC1 so we go out on air lols). So despite a lot of waiting around to go on air, it can be a bit of a last minute scramble sometimes.

Thursday | Two years ago my best friend and I had a Harry Potter marathon (and I even wrote a post about our musings here) and this year we decided to have a Hunger Games one, which yes, is much shorter and easier, but it's still a day of watching films and enjoying each other's company. Unfortunately my friend was delayed, which meant we only had time to watch two of the films, but I kept it going alone and watched the other two. Marathon complete.

Friday | By Friday the painting was all finished in the living room (hooray!) so we had a big tidy up and then started laying the laminate floor. Laying laminate is possibly both of our least favourite jobs and both times we've done it previously have resulted in rather spectacular arguments. Such is the evil of laminate floor. It was taxing to begin with, but rather annoyingly/hilariously we discovered that you're supposed to go from left to right and we'd always gone from right to left...turns out the correct way is much easier and we ended the day on a high.

Saturday | The laminate saga continued into Saturday and we got it finished as well as a few other little jobs that needed doing in there. It's starting to look very much like a living room, which is very exciting, although there are so many little jobs still to do and it's rather lacking in furniture...

What did you get up to this week?

  8. Your Christmas Day sounds just as it should be - relaxing and wonderful! Oh and yes, it's not Christmas Day without some sort of silly game, haha. The Hunger Games marathon sounds like so much fun (I had a Harry Potter marathon last week) and oh my gosh, how did I not know what you did for work? That's so interesting! I hope you'll blog more about that at some point?! :) Happy 2018, Amy!!

  10. Amy, you have even managed to make DIY photos gorgeous and aesthetically appealing, how do you do it?! Getting locked out sounds like a total nightmare, I'm so glad that Nick and your parents were there to rescue you! Really exciting to see the colour going up on your living room walls, I'm sure that all your hard work on the house will be paying off in no time!
