Yep, that's right, Nick does such a good job as my Instagram boyfriend that I've decided to promote him to my *spoiler* Instagram husband instead. I don't give him enough credit for what a good job he does with my outfit pictures/random pictures of me drinking coffee/*insert another Instagram cliche photo here* and the pictures in this post are some of my favourites he's taken. When I planned this outfit it was going to be for a post about holiday dressing on a budget, but I didn't want to post the pictures without telling the story behind them and, in my very biased opinion, it's a pretty good one.
Towards the end of our holiday in the South of France we walked the cap of Antibes and before we went Nick said he'd spied a really good spot for outfit pictures on Google Maps. Usually he needs some kind of bribe to take outfit photos so I should have guessed there was some sort of ulterior motive there, but I was just buzzing that he was so enthusiastic about it. I knew I wanted to write about holiday dressing on a budget so I wore my denim shorts that actually used to be really old jeans (because what's more budget than shorts that were essentially free?). Nick was adamant that we go at a particular time so by the time we'd finished the walk and got to the outfit picture spot it would be nearing sunset and we'd hopefully get some good snaps. Again, I was super impressed at his newfound dedication to my outfit photos and didn't think his obsession with the time was odd (naive unsuspecting fool that I am).
We walked the cap, which was truly stunning and such a lovely thing to do in the evening (I can imagine it would have been pretty hot in the daytime) then we walked a little way further to the spot Nick had found for outfit pictures. We hit a snag in that because it was such a lovely spot there were quite a few people hanging around, having barbecues and drinks. Luckily we found a spot without any people in the background and Nick snapped the above three photos (and heaps more that didn't make it into the post obviously). If I'm honest, by this point we'd been walking for about two hours, I'd got my outfit pictures and I was ready to go back to the apartment and crash for the night. Nick on the other hand seemed determined to find a different spot for outfit pictures that was 'less busy' so I went along with it because I wanted to take full advantage of him being so nice about outfit pictures. We ended up at the below spot and by this time the sun was a bit lower, but Nick suggested we come back another night because it was cloudy so the sunset wasn't totally clear. Again, a blatant clue if you're at all intelligent, but I just laughed and asked why on earth we'd do the whole walk again just to see a better sunset?
We left the beach and walked a little along the road that would lead back to Antibes, Nick leading the way. Not far along the road was a little secluded cove. The sunset had just turned a rather stunning shade of red and as Nick turned to walk down the steps into the cove I immediately got my camera out again and demanded more outfit pictures (because surely that's why he was going down there right?!). He took the below photos and then we stood soaking in the view of the sunset and the perfectness of the evening. I'd just like to point out that we are possibly the least romantic couple you'll ever come across so the fact that this took place on a secluded beach at sunset is pretty unexpected and I guess that's why it took me by surprise so much (to the point where I actually asked him if he was joking). If you haven't guessed by now, WE GOT ENGAGED.
I'm not really going to talk about the outfit too much because I just wanted to tell the story behind the pictures, but I have to just stop and tell you all how much I adore this top, mainly because of the beaut patterned tie details at the back and I'm so happy I got the chance to wear it properly on holiday because in England it won't be getting worn without a top underneath because I'm so not up for going braless in England.
Hopefully this story wasn't too sickening (I asked Nick if I should write it up and his response was basically 'ew, no' haha) but these pictures mean more to me than just an outfit post so there you go.

DeleteOoooh my goooooooooooooodness Amy this is just the sweetest thing! Bless Nick too, that is such a lovely idea. I would have been in shock if Matt was so enthusiastic about blog snaps - next time he is, I am going to be V suspicious lol! Immy x

Haha looking back I don't know how I wasn't suspicious! Thanks lovely :) xx
DeleteAwwww Amy! Huge supermassive congratulations on your engagement! This story is utterly adorable - Nick knew exactly how to get you to the most picturesque spot with the lure of outfit photos haha! The first paragraph about him being promoted to Insta-Hubbie made me giggle too! I don't know what it is about being abroad but going braless just feels more ok there than back in the UK! 😂😂 Gorgeous outfit and a wonderful story!

Absolutely loved reading, it is the most wonderful, cute story and made me laugh in places too...well done Nick, what a genius and sneaky plan! I'd be very surprised if Rob started being super dedicated to the look of my outfit pics but like you I'd probably just be so pleased he was that I wouldn't think to suspect anything else haha. Gorgeous setting, the top is an absolute winner, and I'm so happy for you - congratulations to you both! Sophie xxx

Haha, I definitely need to give him more credit than I do! xx
DeleteOMG how sweet! He put so much thought into it, I can't believe you weren't suspicious immediately! When Simon proposed to me he left me upstairs and disappeared downstairs cos he had a "present for me" - whenever he talked about presents I had a standard joke where I'd always reply "it is a puppy, is it a kitten, is it an engagement ring" .. so I did that and then he just went very quiet and I thought to myself "Crap, it's an engagement ring and I've just completely ruined it!"
ReplyDeleteHA HA!!!!
Haha that is the BEST engagement story I love it! I'm so naive to not be suspicious haha xx
DeleteLOL! That made me laugh!

DeleteSo lovely, and yes, he is really taking great pictures! Looking for the "better sunset" was so special and that was a big clue, I guess, but no, sometimes we just can't see what is in front of our eyes :) And the surprise is then much better! Congratulations! And yes, I also loved the top :)
ReplyDeleteDenisesPlanet.com
The surprise was definitely much better, I'd have felt like I'd ruined it if I'd guessed! xx

DeleteNot sickening at all, this story made me day when I read it on Instagram back then. You say you're not a romantic couple but getting engaged in such an incredibly romantic spot kinda speaks against that haha. I loved how he planned that proposal and I love how he also combined that with your hobby, that's so sweet. Again, congrats, I'm so so happy for you! And I love the outfit you're wearing, that top is amazing! xx
ReplyDelete113thingstosay.com
Haha this is the most romantic thing we've ever done (or he's ever done anyway!) Thanks Mira :) xx
DeleteOH MY GOSH, congratulations!! This story has literally just melted my heart. How adorable he kept trying to create the perfect moment - and it both looks and sounds as though he absolutely did. SO cute!!

Thanks so much lovely, he definitely did :) xx
DeleteAs soon as I started reading this I knew it was going to be way more than just a romantic holiday story, or just a few snaps, and I knew when you said he had planned it, it was engagement! This is SO exciting. Huge congratulations to you both. I'm sure the photos do mean everything to you, I know mine do from last year when we got engaged too. I'm so happy for you! There's so much deserving credit that goes into the photographers of our blogs! xx.
