Smart, Casual and Everything in Between

I'm lucky enough that I work somewhere that doesn't have a strict dress code. This means that I generally dress to suit my mood. If I fancy dressing up a bit, looking smart and wearing some heels, then I will. Equally, if I'm tired and feel like dressing comfortably I'll happily wear jeans, a jumper and trainers to work. I was recently chatting to a work colleague who does exactly the same thing about how drastically the way we dress varies on different days and how other people in the office might view us. The main thing I thought was that people might think we're a bit confused about our own style and we can't make our minds up whether we're a smart, casual or in between dresser. Then I thought why should how smart you dress (or not) dictate your style? You can still have your own style and adapt it to any degree of smartness. I get the feeling I'm rambling now and also possibly not making any sense (a feeling I often get when writing blog posts unfortunately) so lets just move on to the outfit...

The reason I thought that the above paragraph was vaguely related to this outfit is because of how jumbled together it is. I absolutely love this combination of a smart blouse dressed down with jeans and smart fishnet socks dressed down with trainers. Also I realised that my blouse matches my trainers perfectly and that makes me pretty happy.

The blouse is actually last spring's offering, but I still love it even though I'm not usually a pink person. The jeans are also quite old and I feel like I must apologise for featuring these embroidered beauties on my blog yet again but I've styled them differently every time so at least it shows how versatile they are right?

It's the trainers that are the main event for me in this outfit because they're new, so pretty and I'm just generally quite excited about them. I adore the colour, they're so comfortable and the soles are slightly platformmed (totally not a word) which a) looks awesome and b) makes them even more comfortable. I've been loving the whole fishnet socks trend and although I originally thought I probably wasn't cool enough to pull them off, I thought I'd try anyway and I love them with these trainers. My bag is a newbie too - in an Oxford Street New Look full of bags me and Ashton still managed to buy the same one because it's just so nice. It's cute and boxy with a velvet like texture and gold hardware and even though it's small, it fits everything in it you'd need for an evening out.

  1. This is such a cute outfit and I love the beach setting! I've mastered casual wear, and smart wear, but I haven't managed to blend the two together yet. It's a work in progress!

  3. I never really know how to define my style either! I can go from tracksuit bottoms to grandma's curtain dresses and everything in between! It's great that your job allows you so much flexibility, that's the kind of work environment I'd love! I really like your sunglasses here, they're really quirky and a little bit different! Looking fab as always, Amy!

  5. It's great that you don't have a certain dress code at work. I like this casual outfit, the top looks very pretty on you.

  7. I have exactly the same thing at work, sometimes I rock up in distressed jeans and sometimes I'm there in shirts and heels. I like it that way because you never have to wear something you don't feel like putting on. On another note, my oh my, those trainers are so lovely! You look great :)

  10. I love this outfit! I totally agree though about work, we have a smart casual dress code unless shareholders are in then its smart. We can wear jeans on a Friday, (I don't work Fridays though) as I work 10-2 I don't feel like dressing up every single day as I look like a plum on the nursery run, I much prefer leggings and a long t-shirt... boring right?? xxxxxx

  14. I love this look, the blouse is beautiful and you can never go wrong with embroidered jeans! I also love the fishnet socks, I've wanted to get some for ages. And I'm just like you, I dress according to my mood and on some days I will wear a fancy skirt and on others I will wear jeans and a plain shirt - I don't think we have to limit ourselves to a certain style. xx

  19. Never apologise for wearing the same item more than once! I get so annoyed at fashion bloggers who seem to wear an item just once! People don't just buy a new outfit for every single day! For me, I'm more of a casual dresser; I live in jeans, basic t-shirts and sneakers. I do love heels though but they're just not practical to wear everyday!
