Five Things I Did In May

It's the 30th May (or at least it is when this goes live), which means I've finished work ahead of our wedding and I'm probably currently either in all-systems-go-stress-head mode or I could be lying in bed watching some trash TV on the iPad; it could really go either way with me to be honest. If I am busy there's probably radio silence on my social channels, if not then I'll be boring you all senseless on Instagram stories, probably with cat pictures because I am that person. Anyway, before I also bore you all senseless with a long introduction, here's a little round up of what I got up to in May:

Worked my last day as a Miss | As I said above, I've now finished work ahead of our wedding on Saturday so when I return to work (in three weeks time - bliss) I'll be a Mrs, although I'm not changing my name at work (partly because it's a faff and partly because it's a small way of keeping a little part of my Eade-ness with me forevs). It's crazy how getting married really shows you how many people care; as someone having a small wedding and not actually having invited many people from work, I was really touched by how excited people seemed to be for me.

Had the loveliest delayed bank holiday | I worked the first bank holiday weekend in May, but then had the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off as a result and managed to have three days in a row full of lovely plans. I met up with Sophie to explore somewhere new, eat good food and have a natter. I went to see Frank Turner with Ashton and I had a lovely spa day with my mum. Then I went back to work for two days before it was the weekend again. So all in all, the first week of May was gurrrrd.

Reignited my love of gigs | I used to really enjoy going to gigs, but I couldn't actually tell you when the last time was I went to one before this month. I think I thought I'd got too old and that I'd hate them now, but despite the fact that Frank Turner was a bit of a throwback for me (which meant I didn't know any of his new stuff and felt like a bit of a fraud) I loved being in that environment again. I'm off to see Arctic Monkeys in September so who knows, maybe I've caught the bug again.

Became a little bit obsessed with the idea of being a paramedic | I've been fascinated by programmes like Ambulance and Junior Paramedic for years and have always thought if I didn't do what I do now, I'd be a paramedic. This month I went on a first aid course and got really into it; I feel like it might be something that some people would find a bit boring and only do because they have to, but I absolutely loved it and lapped up every word/activity. I'm definitely not going to quit my job and become a paramedic, but it would certainly be my backup if I ever lost my job.

Put myself first | I'm usually a very reliable person - if you make plans with me, I will not cancel them. But in the run up to the wedding I've been really focused on looking after myself and making sure I don't get run down so when I got a bit of a cold I actually did end up cancelling plans. I felt all the guilt, but it meant I had a really chilled weekend to myself, probably the last I'll have in a while, and I needed it so much so I'm very glad I was a little bit selfish for once.

What did you get up to in May?

  3. Eek! I'm so excited for you getting married soon - have the most incredible 3 weeks off work Amy and enjoy every single moment! Also, how infesting you're curious about being a paramedic, I could see you suiting that role. Funnily enough, I've always thought that if I wasn't set on being in a more creative space throughout my life, I'd want to be a paramedic too :) Happy to hear you've had a fabulous month!

  4. It's so exciting that you're getting married so soon! I hope you're watching trash TV right now rather than being in stress mode. I have finished watching Love Island on Netflix so now I'm just waiting for the new season to start haha. I think it's great that you put yourself first, I never cancel on people either but sometimes it's important to take a break, especially when you're feeling unwell. Also, I was obsessed with being a paramedic or working at hospitals when I was younger and I used to binge watch 'mysterious diagnosis' haha xx

Don't feel bad about cancelling plans - wedding planning and weddings can be stressful so you need to take time for yourself!

Hope that you are having a great weekend! It's a busy but fun one here.
