Five Things I Did In April

I find it very difficult to write an introduction to round up posts without them all sounding exactly the same. My previous formula has been as such; comment on how quickly/slowly the month seems to have gone, explain why I love writing monthly roundups, say I'll 'jump straight in' having just written a very long paragraph. So bear with me while I try and think of a more inventive way to draw you guys into these posts and here are my highlights from April:

My hen do! At the weekend I headed to North Yorkshire with nine of my faves for a weekend of glamping. Aside from the location, I had no idea what to expect, but my maid of honour really pulled out all the stops and did such an amazing job. I had a lovely time with all my favourites, the highlight being that a travelling zoo came to visit on Saturday morning consisting of exotic animals that had been rescued from being kept/bred illegally or that had been abandoned and not able to be released. There was everything from a snake to a raccoon, but my personal favourite was Daisy the skunk who was just the cuddliest little thing.

Renewed motivation for my blog. At the beginning of the month I won (this is me who never wins anything by the way) a blog MOT from Sophie Cliff. I wasn't sure what to expect from it (I was actually a little nervous that I'd get a load of negative feedback!), but it was so helpful to have a fresh pair of eyes look at absolutely everything, I received a ton of useful suggestions and as a result feel like I have a renewed motivation when it comes to my blog and its direction.

I went to the theatre. For an ex-drama student, I go to the theatre a pitiful amount, but I went to see The Kite Runner with my mum for our monthly mother/daughter day out and it was amazing. I have read the book, but had forgotten pretty much the whole second half and boy it's emotional isn't it? I seem to be very into plays/books/films that make me feel very sad so I'm not sure what that says about me. I definitely need to make more of an effort to get to the theatre more often.

I picked up my wedding dress. I now have the actual finished altered dress that I'll be wearing on the day! I liked it anyway, but it's mad how it being fitted properly changes it and makes it even nicer. The only faux pas on my part is that I went for my fitting when I'd just completed veganuary and had lost a bit of weight (unintentionally) so although I despise the whole 'watching your weight for your wedding' thing, I'm actually going to have to. Whoops.

I had an actual slow weekend. I am bad at relaxing especially when I'm at home and there's always something I could be doing, but when we had that nice little heatwave I managed to actually have a slow weekend. It's a work in progress because I suppose the concept of 'slow weekend' is different for everyone and I think for me it actually involves getting up a bit earlier and making the most of my time; being a little bit productive but also giving myself the chance to chill out. The warm weather helped a lot!

What did you get up to in April?

  5. Sounds like you had a lovely month! So exciting that you've picked up your wedding dress too! Mine had the corset detail on the back so it didn't matter if I overindulged before the big day, haha! Could be tightened or loosened to fit! :)

Hope you are having a great week :) I'm enjoying our cooler autumn weather, it's a lovely change from the heat we've had this year!

  7. Oh you're lucky your show was good at the theatre, I saw a couple plays lately after not going for ages and I was so disappointed in the quality of the shows.
