Transitioning My Summer Wardrobe | Cropped Trousers

I'm going through a (very rare) period in which my head is bursting with blog post ideas so I'm struggling to find the time or space to fit in as many of these transition posts as I'd like before it's actually winter and the time for transitional dressing will be well and truly over in favour of forever being wrapped in every bit of cosy I can find. I do have a few more outfits for this little series already planned in my head though so hopefully there'll be room.

This particular outfit wasn't actually one I'd originally thought of writing about, but the window for taking the photographs came before a shift at work that is made much easier by wearing trousers so this outfit was cobbled together (in my head the night before when I couldn't sleep because I was trying to think of an outfit I could wear - LOL). If it hadn't been for the sake of this post I don't think these trousers would have seen the light of day again until next spring, as I really wouldn't have considered them to be a transitional piece.

For one thing, they're floral and I always think of summer when I see floral print even though obviously it's for any time of year. The other obvious thing is that they're cropped so they're definitely not going to see you all the way into winter, but for this time of year they're actually perfect as long as they're paired with the right things. The trousers in question are a couple of years old from New Look and I've worn them heaps every summer since I got them, but always put them away as soon as it's got cold. But not this year...

I think the main reason I wouldn't have thought of these as a transitional piece is because of how I'd usually wear them. I usually wear these in the height of summer with a white or pale coloured floaty top and sandals and it was difficult for me to imagine them with anything else. Luckily this little series is also forcing me to get creative and in a moment of inspiration I thought of this jumper. The colours go perfectly together to make a lovely autumn palette (can we just take a moment to slap me in the face for using the word 'palette' in a blog post because hellooo pretentious) and the warmth of the jumper makes up for the little bit of leg that's on show to the elements.

The jumper is also old, but I made that lil' promise to myself (here) that I wouldn't get hung up on sharing only new clothes on this blog so that I can actually show a true representation of my wardrobe. This is another New Look number from last year (I think - time flies when you're buying clothes) and it's so warm and cosy, I'm kind of gutted I didn't buy it in more colours at the time! I would never have thought to wear these trousers with boots either, but I popped on my chelsea boots and it all just worked. Voila.
