Autumn Wardrobe Staples

Posted on: Tuesday 11 October 2016

Autumn for me is all about layering - the weather at this time of year in the UK can be a bit indecisive so I always like to be prepared for all eventualities (although judging by a walk to work a few weeks ago it seems that rain is not one of the eventualities I am prepared for).

Ankle Boots | I literally live in ankle boots throughout autumn and winter (OK not literally, sorry for being one of those annoying people who says literally when they don't even mean it). These ones are my favourites and they're really old from Topshop. They've lasted ages, but I think this year will be the last year for them as they're not actually waterproof anymore, which is kind of important when you walk to work every day. If anyone knows where I can get an identical pair please let me know!

High Necklines | I used to hate high necklines because I felt stifled and didn't like the feeling, but I guess I got old and prude and fond of covering up and now I love them. I have so many tops with high necklines, but I recently picked up this jumper from New Look, which is the perfect (stereotypical) colour for autumn and just so cosy. It was also only £10 so I'm tempted to get one in every colour...

Light cover ups | I stubbornly refuse to wear a proper coat before December - it's a little like putting the heating on, once you've caved you'll never go back! So in autumn I like to wear lighter cover ups - denim jackets, leather jackets and this beaut trench coat, which was from New Look last year and is something that sees me through both spring and autumn as an in between cover up.

Scarves | I realise I look like an actual bonfire in this jumper and scarf combo, but this scarf is my favourite thing to wear throughout autumn so it's got to be done. Scarves are an extra method of layering so I love them at this time of year. This one is huge and so ridiculously cosy, I have actually even used it as a blanket at work before (that's why everyone I work with thinks I'm really cool.)

What are your autumn wardrobe staples?

  2. Yes to layering, that's one of the main reasons why I absolutely love autumn! This look is perfect and you look so beautiful on these pictures! :)
My autumn wardrobe staples are pretty much similar to yours - scarfs, ankle boots, leather jacket, beanie with a big pompom on top and high necklines - I used to hate them as well and then all of a sudden I found myself starting to buy them all over again. I have no idea where this massive change came from haha.
