Why I Told People About My Blog

If you've been reading my blog for a while (thank you if you have!) then you may remember a post back in April where I spoke about the reasons I kept my blog a secret (post here). In a nutshell, I was embarrassed and afraid of being judged. Sounds silly, but I know that a lot of bloggers feel exactly the same and some of the comments I received on that post confirmed that I wasn't alone.

However some of the comments were so overwhelmingly supportive and complimentary that I decided to bite the bullet and tell a few people. And hey, turns out that people don't actually care all that much. I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean that me having a blog wasn't like some massive reveal which resulted in people saying 'OMG can you believe it, who does she think she is?' (not to my face anyway - lols).

My friends have been nothing but absolutely lovely and a couple of my close friends have even told me that they're proud of me and that just makes my heart all happy and fuzzy. I haven't heard anyone judging me so if they are they're doing it behind my back and if that's the case then we probably weren't that great friends to begin with. The thing is I'm so happy that people know and I can relax and talk about it with friends because it's something that I'm so passionate about and not being able to talk about it with the people who mean the most is kind of sad.

I guess this is just a little short and sweet post to say THANK YOU to all the lovely people who commented on the first post which encouraged me to share my blog with other people and also to all my friends who have been absolutely lovely about it since.

I would also encourage other bloggers who were in my situation before to tell their friends and family about their blogs because I really think you'll be surprised at how supportive the people around you really are!

Do people know about your blog or not?

    1. It's so common for bloggers not to speak about it with non-bloggers! You should definitely tell people though, you're doing so well with it! xx

  4. Aww, that's so nice to hear! You've got some lovely friends, Amy. I haven't told any friends about my blog because I think the whole idea of it makes me nervous. Maybe someday into the future. x

When I first started blogging only a few of my closest friends + my family knew about it and because they were so supportive and nice it encouraged me to feel great about being a blogger and made me enjoy the whole process even more! xx

  13. I kept my blog a secret too when I first started out. Well, actually I've only started telling people about it recently. I also felt people would judge me and think I'm not good enough to blog about certain topics but now I just don't really care what other people think. Everybody's got their own lives to worry about so I doubt they'll have time to judge me and my blog. And if they do then so what haha.

  15. Love this Amy, so much! I've still not publicised my blog on facebook and only really tell people when they ask about my job but I'm so chuffed that you've told people (and that they're proud, they should be), you've got absolutely nothing to be embarrassed of!

  16. I used to feel this way about my blog, but now I am not that bothered however am not brave enough to share posts on my personal Facebook wall or anything yet but really want too! I am more worried about people finding my YouTube videos. I would cringe of someone brought them up to my face, which is horrible as I am actually really proud of them!
