Five Braided Hairstyles

Posted on: Tuesday 12 July 2016

I've always been a lover of plaits and one of my most worn hairstyles is a fishtail plait. Recently I've been getting a bit more experimental and trying new braided styles, partly because we've been watching a lot of Game of Thrones and I have the biggest girl crush on Daenerys Targaryen - I want her hair, clothes and sass (and dragons). I think it's also just because it's summer and I just want my hair to look that bit prettier. Here's what I've been trying:

Fishtail | As I said, a fishtail plait it one of my go to hairstyles and I'm much quicker at them than I used to be due to all the practice I get! If you don't know how to do one, you take two strands rather than three and simply cross sections over the top of each to join the other. If that doesn't make sense there are lots of good tutorials on YouTube!

Plaited Headbands | This is the one I've done the most, my favourite and probably the easiest. I split my hair into two down the middle, do a normal plait with each section, tie with a clear elastic and simply pin it on top of my head. I haven't quite worked out how to keep all the pins hidden, but even with visible pins I think it looks cute!

Multiple Plaited Pony | This is 100% a Daenerys inspired hairstyle because I literally watched Game of Thrones and decided I wanted to try this the next day. It looks very different to hers because her hair is much thicker and dreamier than mine (but she does have the advantage that it's a wig). I get two small sections of my hair from the front, plait them and secure together at the back, then do the same with two more strands of hair making sure that I secure them all into the same strand.

French Plaits and Messy Bun | When I was at school my go to hairstyle was a french plait into a bun, but recently I've been doing two french plaits into a bun for a more summery update. I simply do two french plaits and secure them into a bun, not worrying too much about neatness!

Three Plaits in One The first time I did this one I was just messing around and this is what happened! I plait a small section of hair from underneath my head and bring it round to the top, then at my parting create a French plait using the original plait as one of the strands. I finish off with a normal plait, using the French plait as one of the strands for that!

Do you like plaits? What's your favourite braided hairstyle?

  10. All of these styles are absolutely beautiful! You are clearly quite talented when it comes to braids and updos! i am absolutely hopeless at doing anything other than a top knot, curling my hair, or a simple braid, lol.
