If you're anything like me then it's the time of year when you are flagging in terms of your New Year's resolutions. I've been pushing through though because in terms of my health and fitness goals this is the time of year when they start to matter the most - no more covering up with big jumpers as the warmer weather is on its way! Here are some of my tips for keeping motivated at the gym.
Variety - I purposefully chose a gym that has plenty of classes and a pool so that I've got plenty of choice when I go. If I'm feeling a little less motivated then I'll go for a swim because I find that more relaxing and I can go in the sauna afterwards! Make sure there is plenty of variety in your routine so that you don't get bored of doing the same old workout.
Music - Make a playlist specifically for the gym full of whichever tunes get you feeling energised! I like to set myself challenges based on my music as well - at the moment I'm making myself run for eight songs before I'm allowed to look at how long I've been running for!
Nice gym gear - If you like wearing your gym clothes you're more likely to put them on right? I'm in love with my new trainers to the point where I will go to the gym simply because it means I can wear them! You don't have to break the bank to get nice gym gear either, my trainers were £32 from Sports Direct and there are plenty of high street shops doing nice gym clothes now - H&M has some lovely affordable items.
Goals - I don't mean unrealistic goals like 'I'm going to lose a stone in a month' type thing, but setting small goals means you feel more motivated when you achieve them. I'm actually focusing more on how I look and feel rather than how much I weigh so I'm taking a picture of myself in my underwear every month and comparing them with previous months to make sure I'm on track!
Eating well - It's amazing what impact food can have on your motivation to exercise. If I'm not eating well I feel lethargic all the time whereas if I eat well I'm much more likely to go to the gym. I don't diet, but tend to focus on eating my five a day along with lots of protein.
